Usually this Tumblr is about music. Today it is about something I stumbled on at the Harvard Book Store two nights ago. The great independent press Dalkey Archive has reissued two of William Gaddis’s great novels: The Recognitions and JR. They are about fakes and money…what could be more timely in our society obsessed by fakery and greed? Check ‘em out but keep in mind that they can be tough reads.

This is an amazing service I stumbled upon last night. It has a TON of Scandanavian music-specifically Iceland-as well as tiny, tiny labels from Europe and around the world. Totally amazing. Yes, they also have all the standard indie American labels too but what is the fun of that? I found a Mugison track I had been looking for as well as the debut album by the Icelandic band 1860 which doesn’t have USA distribution. You can listen to the entire songs in preview and there is a feature called “Fair Play in Music” where, if you buy a song from an artist with the fair play shield on it, that artist receives 90% of the sales price. Awesome, right? Don’t say I never gave you no nothin’!
